Nick Seybert received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. He conducts experimental and archival research in financial accounting with a focus on manager personality traits as well as on investors’ and managers’ decision-making biases. His research has been published in leading journals, including Accounting, Organizations and Society, The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Management Science, and Review of Accounting Studies. His research accomplishments have been recognized academically with the 2009 AAA/ABO Best Dissertation Award, and with frequent popular press coverage in outlets such as ABC News, The Atlantic, BusinessWeek, Fast Company, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
Nick has taught Financial Statement Analysis to diverse student populations, including M.S. in Accounting, MBA, and undergraduate students. He has also taught both introductory and behavioral accounting PhD seminars to doctoral students. He is a regular winner of the distinguished teaching award (top 10% of instructors) and a two-time Allen J. Krowe Award for Teaching Excellence recipient. He has also contributed in a variety of departmental, university, and community service capacities. He is currently the Ph.D. Program Coordinator for Accounting and one of two IRB Liaisons for the Smith school, as well as a University Senator. He also spent several years on the board of directors of a nonprofit organization in the DC area.
In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife and four sons, watching movies, playing video games, listening to music with heavy bass, and traveling to Hawaii and Disney World.
